As Chief Economist for Canada’s Charitable and Nonprofit Sector, Brian Emmett is tasked with measuring the impact of the sector and bringing economic issues facing charities and nonprofits to the forefront of public policy decision makers. Mr. Emmett is an economics graduate of the University of Western Ontario and the University of Essex in England, and has enjoyed a long and distinguished public service career. He was Canada’s first Commissioner of the Environment and Sustainable Development in the late 1990s and worked extensively on Canada’s Green Plan. He also served as Vice-President of the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) in the early 2000s and has been an Assistant Deputy Minister in a number of federal government departments.
Rahul K. Bhardwaj, LL.B., President & CEO, Toronto Community Foundation
Rahul K. Bhardwaj is the President & CEO of the Toronto Community Foundation, where he has been working to engage philanthropy in Toronto to improve the city. Formerly a corporate lawyer with a leading Canadian law firm, he was also Vice President of the Toronto 2008 Olympic Bid. Rahul was Chair of the 2012 Ontario Summer Games in Toronto, and is currently the Co-Chair of TO2015 IGNITE, a program of the Toronto 2015 Pan/Parapan American Games. His Board commitments include being the current Chair of Community Foundations of Canada, Vice-Chair of George Brown College, a member of the Boards of Metrolinx and Upper Canada College, and previously, the Toronto Downtown Jazz Festival, United Way Toronto, Stratford Festival and the Toronto Port Authority.
Ritu Bhasin, LL.B., MBA, is Founder and Principal, bhasin consulting inc.
Ritu Bhasin,LL.B. MBA,is Founderand Principal at bhasin consulting inc., a firm that provides people management and leadership strategies to international organizations with an emphasis on diversity and the advancement of women. Previously, Ritu spent 10 years in the legal profession, first practising civil litigation and public law, and then serving on the senior management team of preeminent Canadian law firm as their director of legal talent management. She currently serves the Toronto 2015 Toronto Pan Am Games of Board of Directors’ HR Committee and Employment Advisory Council and the City of Toronto’s Younge Dundas Square Board of Management. Ritu was awarded Western University’s 2013 Young Alumni of the Year Award and University of Toronto’s 2011 Gordon Cressy Leadership Award.
